Market Operation Hours
The Mustard Seed Farmers Market is open: Fridays, May 14th - October 29th,3pm-6pm.
Application and Fees
- Applications must be filled out completely and submitted to The Mustard Seed to be considered for participation in The Farmers' Market.
- There is no cost to set up your booth at this time.
Permits, Licenses, Taxes and Insurance.
- All permits and licenses required by the City of Chaska, Carver County, the State of Minnesota or the Federal Government are the sole responsibility of the vendors.
- Any required sales tax collections and remittances are the sole responsibility of the vendors.
- The Mustard Seed is not liable for any injury, theft, or damage to either the buyer or seller, or their property, arising out of or pertaining to preparation for or participation in the The Mustard Seeds Farmers' Market; whether such injury, theft or damage occurred prior, during, or after The Mustard Seeds Farmers' Market, seller further agrees to indemnify and hold The Mustard Seed harmless for and against any claims for such injury, theft or damage.
- All vendors should carry their own general liability and product liability insurance.
Market Goods
- Most of your locally grown fresh produce and locally made products may be approved.
The following is a list of some of the items that may be sold with acceptance of application by The Mustard Seed.
Vendor grown fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs & spices. Vendor produced or raised products such as cheese, meats, fish, poultry, eggs, baked goods, maple syrup and preserves, if prepared and packaged in accordance with rules established by the MN Department of Agriculture. Some other hand made items may be sold with acceptance of your application. Any items that compete directly with The Mustard Seed Garden Center sales will not be allowed without prior permission.
- You will need to list all products you wish to sell on your application and they will need to be accepted by The Mustard Seed before you can participate. Any items not on your application will need prior approval before you can sell them.
- We like the practice of chemical free farming and those farmers/growers can label their produce as "Chemical Free".
- Produce sold as Organic must have originated from an organic Certified Farm.
- Farmstead products such as cheese, meats, fish, poultry, eggs, baked goods, maple syrup and preserves, if prepared and packaged in accordance with rules established by the MN Department of Agriculture may be sold with application acceptance.
- Processed food items should be sold with a valid processing license or comply with Minnesota labeling law requirements.
- Products purchased for resale at the market are generally not allowed and must have prior approval.
- All producers of processed items (cheese, meats, jams, jellies, syrups, baked goods, etc.) are required to adhere to all state and local laws pertaining to the production and selling of such goods.
- Processed food items should be sold with a valid processing license or comply with Minnesota labeling law requirements.
- All items must be prepared, displayed and stored in accordance with Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Minnesota Department of Health and Carver County Community Health Department guidelines.
Set-up/Take-down
- Vendors can set up their booths after 2pm and need to have everything set up by the Farmers' Market starting time of 3pm. If you are running late or cannot make it please give as much advance notice as possible. 952.361.9954
- If you sell your entire product you can start taking down your both when the market closes at 6pm.
- Booths can be taken down when the market closes at 6pm and vendors must clean up all signage, trash, tables, etc by 8pm when The Mustard Seed Garden Center closes.
- All waste generated is the sole responsibility of the vendor and shall be taken with at time of take down.
- Parking should be in your booth or where you are directed to park by The Mustard Seed.
General Market Guidelines
- Market vendors must be ready to start selling at 3pm. The Mustard Seed encourages vendors to be in place ½ hour before the Market opens, but please note no presales are allowed. Vendors must remain until the Market closes.
- All vendors must follow The Mustard Seed principles and core values.
- The Mustard Seed reserves the right to prohibit or remove any vendor at any time for any reason.
- Any vendor who the The Mustard Seed feels is not complying with the Market rules may be asked to leave.
- Market will occur rain or shine. Market hours may be adjusted if threatening weather occurs. Please call if you have questions. 952.361.9954
- One booth is approximately 10'x20' and all items must be contained within the booth. Vendors may request one or two stalls. Other sizes may be requested on application for approval.
- All displays must be neat and tasteful.
- We encourage you to post any certifications and signs you have to show the produce and products you have. If any of your signage states that your products are organic you are required to post your organic certification.
- You should have any licenses or permits you are required to have with you in your booth.
- Treat other vendors, customers and The Mustard Seed staff with respect and cooperation.
- Vendors must guarantee customer satisfaction for all goods sold.
- Please keep all money or cash boxes stored out of sight.
- All backstock or extra boxes must be stored neatly or out of sight.
- Vendors are responsible for providing all tables, chairs, canopies, scales, signs and other items needed for their display. We encourage you to create a booth space that is visually appealing and to provide bags for customer’s convenience.
- We encourage vendors to bring tents/canopies. Our site is very windy and all tents and canopies must be firmly anchored/weighted down at all times.
- No stakes may be pounded into the parking lot.
- No electricity or water is provided or available.
- Stall space will be assigned by The Mustard Seed for the entire season but can be subject to change with proper notification.
- The Mustard Seed has the authority to move and reassign stall space to enhance or facilitate Market operations.
- Alcoholic beverages, smoking and pets are prohibited at the Market.
- Water and bathrooms are available in The Mustard Seed Garden Center. The bathrooms can be used for sanitary purposes only and may not be used for washing produce, preparing foods or any other uses. If you do need water for something please contact The Mustard seed staff.
- The general cleanliness of the Market area is everyone's responsibility. All vendors must keep their area neat while selling and make certain that the area is clean before leaving. Please bring along a broom and garbage bags to use when you clean up. We will not be able to provide them for you.
- All Market vendors should represent themselves in an appropriate manner, dress, and state of cleanliness. Shirts and shoes must be worn.
- Price, terms of sale, etc. are between buyer and seller only.
- All vendors agree to abide by fair business practices.
- Vendors must remove all trash from the market area by 8pm this includes produce debris, bags and boxes as a result of their sales. Trash cans are provided only for incidental trash. Any garbage or debris from your booth should be taken with you.
