Water gardening can bring to life a whole new world of beauty, relaxation, and a scene of wildlife to your home that you might have never have thought imaginable. The tranquility and peaceful relaxation from the sound of rushing water in a creek bed or cascading over a waterfall can transcend you into a world far away from the stresses of your busy life.
With the addition of fish and water plants, you can create a natural environment where you will find a joyful and entertaining sanctuary; an escape that can be enjoyed by everyone in your family. Your fish will become friends as they eat from your hands and swim around your feet. You can watch the plants in and around your pond grow into a beautiful, natural landscape that adds value to your home.
By adding underwater lights and accent lighting, you can extend your enjoyment into the night, unwittingly creating and experiencing a world so stunning and peaceful you may not want the sun to come up!
With a properly installed water garden, you can leave your pump running all winter long, bringing life to our long, cold, Minnesota winters. The splashing of water against the snow, the sparkling reflection of the sun dancing amongst the ice crystals, the fish slowly meandering under the frozen pond; nothing can adequately describe the beauty of your own water garden during the winter.
With the invention of new systems, water gardening can be a fulltime hobby or a fairly low maintenance addition to your landscape. There are various options that can fit your specific needs. Pond-less waterfalls have become a very popular, low maintenance water feature that can be installed in a very small area without the worries of small children near open water. Also, bubbling rocks can be a unique addition to any home and can be put almost anywhere.
When considering building a water feature there are two main things to keep in mind. First, and most important, is remembering that the key to a successful water garden is using a quality system! Our system uses a biological filter to help keep algae to a manageable level, a surface skimmer, complete with a clean out net, to capture surface debris, and a high quality, high efficient, stainless steel pump correctly sized for your pond. The biological filter is inoculated with bacteria that feed on algae, the skimmer collects organic materials so that they don't sink to the bottom and become sludge and the correctly sized pump insures adequate water exchange and filtration. The second most important part of a water garden is adding plants and fish. The plants help take nutrition out of the water, reducing algae and improving water clarity and the fish actually eat algae and complete the ecosystem. By having plants, fish and a basic knowledge of maintaining a well-balanced ecological environment, your pond will be crystal clear with minimal maintenance, and you will have more time to enjoy your personal pond paradise!
