My interest in Horticulture started with my mother, who was an avid gardener. Growing up, I spent many hours outside tending the vegetable and flower gardens. It was an established rule that we were not allowed to play with any toads we found until we pulled enough weeds, or tilled enough ground. It was a great motivator to learn to love being outside. My passion for plants continued to grow and was encouraged by my parents when they brought home a seedling orange tree from Florida for me when I was in highschool (a plant I still have to this day!)
I started my college career at UW - Stevens Point studying Urban Forestry. I spent two years taking courses there before I realized that I was more interested in the process of production. I then transferred to UW - River Falls where I graduated with a BS in Horticulture. The summer after my graduation I spent in Fargo working for NDSU's Woody Plant Introduction Program. It was an amazing experience where I was able to directly apply my knowledge to the real world. When my internship was done, I moved back to the Twin Cities and began working for a local greenhouse in their annual plant production. I quickly realized my passion was more in tune with retail sales than production. God literally put The Mustard Seed in my radar when it was mentioned at a small group meeting at church. A few short weeks later, I stumbled upon the website and knew God was calling me to put in an application.
When I'm not enjoying my time at work, I can usually be found with my husband planning our future landscape and researching the various plants we'd love to plant together. I am a person of passion and while I have a few other passions, plants are definitely a top one for me. I thank God every day that He put The Mustard Seed in my life, I cannot imagine being happier anywhere else.
